South West Birchington-on-Sea is identified within Thanet District Council’s emerging Local Plan for the development of a residential-led mixed-use scheme that is expected to deliver the following:

  • Around 1,600 new open market and affordable homes ranging in size, type and tenure to best meet local needs
  • A minimum of 12.8 hectares of community parkland based around a wetland inspired landscape and heritage approach
  • A new primary school
  • Potential improvements to the Birchington Medical Centre
  • A network of new cycle and pedestrian links within the site and surrounding area
  • The provision of small-scale convenience retail to serve day to day needs
  • A strategic link road to help alleviate traffic in the village centre and wider Thanet area.
